Philosophy

A Place to Grow follows How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years and is committed to fostering positive relationships among children, families, educators, and the community. We provide a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where children learn through play, exploration, and meaningful interactions.

Our program is built on four foundational conditions essential to children's growth and development:

Belonging

We create a welcoming, home-like environment where children and families feel valued, respected, and connected. Families are encouraged to visit before their child's first day, participate in our open-door policy, and engage with learning stories and classroom documentation. We aim to build trust and ensure every child feels safe and supported.

Well-Being

We promote physical and mental health by supporting self-care, self-regulation, and emotional development. Children are guided in managing behaviours and emotions using positive strategies such as redirection, supportive communication, and quiet spaces for calming and reflection. Daily outdoor play provides safe, developmentally appropriate physical challenges that support overall wellness.

Engagement

We support communication in all forms — spoken, non-spoken, physical, and creative. Language-rich environments and open-ended materials encourage children to express thoughts, feelings, and ideas while developing literacy, social, and problem-solving skills. Educators respond to each child's abilities and expand learning based on individual strengths and understanding.

Expression

We support communication in all forms — spoken, non-spoken, physical, and creative. Language-rich environments and open-ended materials encourage children to express thoughts, feelings, and ideas while developing literacy, social, and problem-solving skills. Educators respond to each child's abilities and expand learning based on individual strengths and understanding.

Our Commitment to Quality

We are dedicated to providing the highest quality childcare to every family we serve. Our programs support children's social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development while respecting individual differences.

We:

  • Follow the College of Early Childhood Educators' Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
  • Maintain regular inspections and work with the Health Unit to monitor nutrition and safety
  • Communicate daily with families and conduct annual parent surveys
  • Support ongoing professional development (minimum four workshops per year)
  • Treat all children, families, and staff with fairness and respect

Quality childcare means genuine care for every child's daily experience and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Inclusion & Community Partnerships

We believe every child deserves to belong. Inclusion means valuing each child's strengths, supporting individual needs, and ensuring meaningful participation in all programs.

We:

  • Expand childcare options for children with disabilities
  • Provide staff training to support inclusive practices
  • Collaborate with community agencies such as Children First, Children's Aid, and Talk to Me
  • Design indoor and outdoor environments that are accessible and inclusive
  • Maintain trained Child and Youth Workers when possible
  • Support student placements from high school, college, and university programs

Children of all abilities learn and grow together in an environment built on respect, choice, and belonging.

Partnerships
with Families

Parents are a child's most important influence. We prioritize strong, respectful relationships with families and maintain an open-door policy. We encourage parent involvement and clear, ongoing communication to ensure the best possible outcomes for every child.

Play-Based Learning Philosophy

Play is essential to healthy development. Through safe, open-ended play experiences, children develop independence, creativity, curiosity, self-regulation, responsibility, and self-worth. Daily activities include small and large group learning, fine and gross motor development, music, dramatic play, open snack, and outdoor exploration.

We view every child as competent, capable, curious, and rich in potential. Our educators bring this belief to life daily through thoughtful environments, engaging materials, and responsive teaching.

Documentation & Accountability

Educators document children's learning through photos and learning stories shared with families.

All staff are required to comply with this Program Statement.
Failure to do so may result in progressive discipline, up to and including dismissal.
